Pollinator Garden Project

We are so very excited to share that we have chosen for Vego Garden's Giving Back Program

Through this program we have received 5 raised garden beds to create a pollinator garden in the front of the school. It's a wonderful opportunity to teach our kids about creating a place for bees and butterflies to thrive and about how to plant flowers and keep them growing.  Additionally we hope this project will help with erosion of the hill caused by rain run off from the parking lot. It’s our goal to get our community involved as much as we can.

During the week of May 13, 2024 we put together the 5 beds, placed them and added soil. Then we gathered together to add our plants and seeds.

Our soil was discounted for us from Piedmont Feed and Garden, in Chapel Hill. The kids loved seeing the big dump truck deliver the dirt.

As you walk by these raised beds you’ll see coneflower, brown eyed susans, yarrow, bee balm and more. You’ll also start to see the annual, Zinnia starting to sprout.

We have bed that has herbs, including rosemary, lavender, basil and chives. We even snuck a few tomato and cucumber plants in there to see how they do. Hopefully the deer aren’t too interested.

We have a bed that gets a lot of shade. Here we’ve planted some shade tolerant plants, like irises, hosta and autumn sedum. These produce flowers at different times of the year.

Thank you to everyone who has made this project possible. We look forward to caring for this special place for years to come.
