Hi Wildflower Families --
Happy Martin Luther King Day! I hope everyone had a nice long weekend.
By now, I hope all of you have had a phone call regarding our school building. Of course, the news has been a surprise to all of us, but we will move forward with our daily business of fun and play with the children, and we are very excited about the possibility of a great new space!!! In an effort to keep things as normal as possible for the children, please direct your questions to Kinsey and the board members at the meeting on Tuesday night.
Last week, as part of our Things That Go theme, we talked about all kinds of construction vehicles and the jobs that they do. We read Building and My Dump Truck. We bulldozed through paint and shaving cream, made buildings from corks and popsicle sticks, and built marshmallow structures. We learned the signs for “build,” “dig,” and “destroy.” The children can show you! We talked about the letter ‘Qq,’ and how its best buddy is ‘u,’ and the children came up with an impressive list of ‘Qq’ words: “queen,” “quilt,” “quiet,” “quack,” and “quick” among others.
This week, we’ll continue our theme and talk about Things That Go by sea: sailboats, motorboats, ships, barges, and tugboats. We’ll experiment to see what kinds of objects float and what kinds sink, have a regatta, and make a harbor scene on posterboard. Our letter this week is the letter ‘Rr,’ and we’ll learn the signs for “boat” and “ride.”
I look forward to seeing everyone this week!
Thank you for sharing your children with me --
