Hi Wildflower Families --

Happy Spring!!! And it truly feels like it too! The daffodils are up and the trees are blooming.

Opposites week was tons of fun! The children made drew UNDER the table, made day/night pictures, and a long paper chain,. On Thursday and Friday, we came to school in our pajamas and made homemade waffles for snack. We read lots of books about opposites (including Go, Dog, Go and Daddy and I: Big and Small), played silly-face hangman, Worm, and What’s Wrong with this Picture? I have to say, I was very impressed with your children’s ability to grasp the concept of “opposite” -- it’s not an easy one for children this age! They are SO smart! We also studied the letter ‘Zz,’ and learned ASL for over/under, big/small, up/down, and in/out. On Friday, we voted on the next activity to replace our Letter of the Week activity. The children voted for studying a new animal each week.

This week, our March Madness theme is Food and Fitness. We’ll talk about the many ways we stay fit and the ways to keep yourself energized with food. We’ll make fruit kabobs, paint lovely still-lifes (lives?) of grapes, glue popcorn clouds, and other fun food projects. Of course, we will read Green Eggs and Ham and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. And, we’ll learn/review the ASL signs for “eat,” “drink,” “run,” “walk ,” and “play.” We’ll also start a human shape activity and learn an action poem about riding a bicycle.-- ask your children about these new activities.

Also -- weather-dependent -- we hope to have lots of picnics this week. We don’t have enough picnic tables to accommodate the whole school. If you have old sheets that you are willing to part with, please send them in sot that we can all picnic together. On the same note, if you have old pillowcases, please send them in for potato sack races!

Many thanks for all you do, and thank you for sharing your children with me --

P.S. -- I will be out tomorrow morning until 10:00. Sean Baker (Kendall’s Dad) will be the sub and the children always have a blast with him.
