hello everyone! hope you are having a wonderful weekend! we had a great week last week making handprint and footprint pictures, fingerpainting and making sticker pictures. this week we will be talking about our families. we will share our family collages--please get these to me if you haven't already--and make graphs of the number of people who live in our house. we'll do spin art and dot paint and wash babies in the water table.
the sunbeams are doing an amazing job adjusting to school! they are such a fun group. please feel free to email me with any questions you might have. also, as the weather gets chillier please make sure you have weather appropriate clothes in your cubbies and make sure all jackets are labeled. thanks!
hello everyone! hope you all are enjoying the beautiful day! the sunbeams had a great week last week. we painted, made collages, read lots of stories and explored our classroom. we played "who's under the blanket" and learned our binocular song. this week we will be talking about our bodies. we'll paint with toothbrushes, make healthy food collages, and do lots of hand and foot print art.
please make sure to have your family collages to me this week. we will be sharing them with each other next week.
hello everyone! it was a great first week of school....everyone is settling in and feeling more comfortable. this week the sunbeams worked on learning their way around the school, cleaning up at clean up time, walking in line...and just generally getting used to things! there were a few tears but not too many! this week the theme is "my school". we'll work on transitioning from one activity to another, using our words to ask for things, and sharing. we'll explore a variety of art materials---paint, glue, collages---and learning some of our favorite songtime songs.
if you haven't sent in your family collage, please do so as soon as possible. we will be using those during the next weeks to get to know each other. also, if you want to send in any additional pictures to decorate our table, feel free. they can be of your child, family, friends...i like to decorate the table with them so we can discuss them while we eat snack and lunch.
please email me if you have any concerns or questions about your child. see you soon!
so we've reached the last week of school! please be sure to come to our graduation ceremony wednesday at 12. all of the kids will sing a few songs, then we will call up each child one by one and their teacher will give them a special gift. this is a wonderful time for all of the families and teachers in our community to gather together and celebrate our year. afterwards we will have the final potluck of the school year. and just think---the next time we all gather it we'll be back at home!!!
thank you all for sharing your wonderful children with me. they are such a fun group---and i can honestly say they have some of the most distinctive personalities of any kids i've ever taught! sweet, funny, fiesty...i have really enjoyed them.
hope to see you all wednesday--
hello everyone! we're counting down the final days of the school year---hard to believe! thanks to all of you that made it to the carnival. it was so much fun---one of my favorite events of the year. i was glad we managed to make it so successful. this week we have another event that needs participation: our lemonade stand. last year the kids and teachers organized our own little fundraiser. we made lemonade and cookies and raised the money to buy our light table!
we'd like to do the same thing again! only this year, without a kitchen to bake in, we will need parent donations of cookies, brownies, rice krispie treats, and a few cans of country time lemonade mix, and plastic cups. please let me know what you can bring. the kids will make posters, mix up the lemonade, make decorations, and the older kids will run the register. if you can donate baked goods, please bag a few cookies per ziploc bag and bring them in on thursday or friday. each bag and each cup of lemonade will sell for one dollar.
we will set up the stand under the covered shelter near the playground. on thursday and friday you can send in a couple of dollars with your child and we will walk them out to buy goodies, and you can buy goodies yourself when you come. we will total the money and let the kids vote on what to buy! the kids last year were sooooo proud and excited by this project. we thought we couldn't do it this year without a kitchen, but we decided to give it a try. please let me know what you can do to help! and for the kids that don't come thursday or friday, let me know if you would like to sign them in on one of those days so they can participate. i don't want anyone to miss out!
hello everyone! happy mother's day! hope you are having a wonderful day with your families!
we had fun last week reading lots of our favorite authors. we made presents for our moms, and we painted faces, made wild thing headbands and had a wild rumpus in the hall. this week we will be making crazy concoctions. we will make paints, doughs, and goops---nothing too very messy, but lots of fun.
i wanted to thank all of you for your teacher appreciation gifts. i am so lucky to get to spend time with your children, and even luckier to have such wonderful parents to work with. with each passing year i am more and more grateful to teach in a cooperative setting, and to get to work so closely with parents to create a great school for our kids.
keep an eye out for carvival sign-up. you don't want to miss it!
hello everyone! hope you are having a wonderful weekend! we had a lot of fun last week with our creepy crawlies theme...we are certainly seeing a lot of creepy crawly things on the playground this time of year! we made ant thumbprint pictures, ladybugs, and we painted with plastic bugs. we took a walk around the church campus looking for bugs...but mostly ended up just smelling lots of flowers. :) this week we will be focusing on some of our favorite authors. we'll be reading books by maurice sendak, dr. seuss, and leo leonni among others. we may even turn into wild things for a day!
thanks to everyone who participated in the vote about the space for the school. it was a stressful time for the school, but now that the decision is made we can start to focus on the future. it will be so good to have a space of our own again! i miss those messy art projects!!
don't forget that we have conferences on wednesday! if you would like a conference and you haven't signed up for one, let me know. i will prepare a conference form for each child and if you don't meet with me i will put the form in your folder. also, if you do have a conference and leave your child on the playground to be watched by a parent, please make sure you sign up for shift of playground duty.
finally, we are going to try and make a carnival happen, so be on the look out for info. carnival only happens with LOTS of parent participation. it is not a big commitment of time--usually about an hour and a half on carnival day, or an hour of prep at home---and we can't make carnival happen with out you! it is the kids favorite event of the year, and i think we need it this year more than ever. so be looking for emails in the next week or so.
hello everyone! we had a fun week talking about gardening last week. we made grass heads and handprint lilies, talked about what seeds need to grow and made tissue paper flowers. this week is one of my favorites: creepy crawlies! we'll talk about bugs of all kinds, make caterpillars and paint with worms, and go on bug hunts outside.
please make an effort to stop by and see our potential new space at pilgrim church. jess and i spent a lot of time over the weekend--along with my son seth!---cleaning and sprucing the place up. parents are invited to take a look tomorrow, monday, between 11 and 12:30 or so. it still needs some tlc, but i think you'll see the potential. i hope it will make everyone feel more positive about the possibility of moving our school there.
as always i feel lucky to be part of such a fantastic school and am excited to face whatever changes may come our way. thanks so much for your continued patience and support. it has been a difficult year for all of us, but i think in the end it will solidify our community and remind us why we chose to be part of a cooperative preschool.
hello everyone! hope you all had a wonderful weekend. last week we talked about ways we can help the earth, and we made trash collages, litter bugs, and we went on a walk around school to clean up trash. this week we will be talking about gardening. we will make grass heads and paper flowers, and will also do a seed collage.
just a reminder that tuesday is a teacher work day and there will be no school that day. the teachers will take the day to prepare for conferences, which are just a few weeks away! it's so hard to believe how quickly the school year is drawing to a close. i have been looking through pictures from the beginning of the year and i am amazed at how much the sunbeams have grown this year!
see you soon,
hello everyone! hope you are having a wonderful weekend! we had fun last week talking about babies. we made chicks in eggs, we washed the classroom babies, we made nests for baby chicks, and we made sock babies! this week we'll be "going green". we'll make lots of recycled art and talk about ways that we can be kind to our planet. if you have toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, egg cartons, empty plastic bottles etc...please bring them in!
also, thanks to the folks that sent in baby pictures. we had so much fun showing the pictures at songtime and having the kids guess who the baby was!
see you soon!
