Rainbow Parents,

As we approach our first full week of school following the winter break, we have many exciting projects and challenges to work on together.

You will notice that the sign in sheet , just outside of the classroom no longer has each child's picture beside his or her name. We are working on name recognition in print without the visual prompt. Also I am reinforcing the name recognition with our name tags the children use for choosing the "daily helper job". The children are doing great at looking for that first letter in their name and recognizing it without the picture.

Additionally, we are working on our name puzzles. Basically it's simply the child's name with velcro letters that will attach to work on the correct placement order of letters in his or her name. Later in the year, once we've mastered the placement, we will gradually begin with tracing the letters in each child's individual name!

That being said, it was a great first week back and the kids all seemed to be very happy to get back to school and their friends:)

We welcome Dag on Mondays to our group as his family picked up an open spot following Abe's departure!

Please see the plans for this week below and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Theme: Construction

This week we’ll focus on various machines and vehicles that people use in different types of construction. The Rainbows will also come up with a “construction plan” on how they would go about building a bridge in our classroom. This is a fantastic way for the children to work as a team and come up with a step by step, sequential plan to process what tasks are necessary to complete a project and in what orders these tasks are to be carried out.

  • We’ll construct a building out of toothpicks and marshmallows!
  • My House Craft
  • The sensory table will have small treasures that the children can excavate using dump trucks, backhoes etc.
  • Group Activity: Building a Bridge, making a plan
  • Dump trucks
  • Fine Motor Skills Practice: hammering “nails”

Additional Info/Dates to Remember:

  • Thursday, January 12th :Membership Mtg: 7pm
  • Monday, January 16th: No School: Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday
  • Saturday, January 21st: Open House: 10-12pm: Please encourage any family, friends or neighbors that are looking for an early childhood experience to attend!
Please send your child each day with the appropriate winter clothing, coats, hats, mittens etc. We try to go outside each and every day if it’s above 40 and not raining. There is a basket, above your child’s coat hook, in the common room that is a great place to stash a hat and/or a set of mittens or gloves.

Also please be sure that your child's change of clothing is weather appropriate as well.
